Minneapolis, Minnesota - Skate Events
The Thrasher Weekend: Minneapolis event, featuring the Vans team and three hardcore bands, took place in mid-June (2023). The video and photo coverage of the trip highlighted spots around the city as well as sessions at Familia HQ and the Hiawatha Bowl.
- Participants: Included Vans riders Elijah Berle, Austin Kanfoush, Mami Tezuka, Tony Trujillo, Gilbert Crockett, Lizzie Armanto, Ronnie Sandoval, and Roman Pabich.
Familia Skateshop: The Battle At Wizard's Wedge
"Familia Skateshop yet again puts on an amazing event for the Twin Cities skateboarding community. The contest was chaos, and unfortunately I missed quite a few landed tricks, but it was a fun time regardless. The Red Bull Bailout was a skateboarding best trick jam held at the Federal Reserve Bank (The Fed) four-stair set in Minneapolis, serving as a Midwestern adaptation of the Thrasher Wallenberg competition. The event, held in August (2009), saw local skaters taking on the iconic spot in an open-session format.
The Fed Four-stair set -- which at 5 feet high and 12 feet long is massive. It is located behind the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank building in downtown Minneapolis, and part of the Mississippi River parkway system. Only 3 tricks had been landed at this colossal four-stair prior to this event.
Familia Skateshop Presents: Steep Bank of Doom
The Minneapolis-based skateshop hosted this jam on a brutal, steep, bank-transition setup that challenged local skaters to throw down their best tricks. (July, 2009)
